WKKF supports the active involvement of its employees in their community, through participation in various volunteer events or campaigns. Any event that requires a significant level of commitment of your time, energy or fundraising efforts would potentially count for LiveWell points. 5 Benefits of Stretching
- INCREASES RANGE OF MOTION
Stretching improves flexibility and increases range of motion. The following benefits are direct results of increased flexibility and are
contributors to an improved quality of life. - INJURY PREVENTION
Gently stretching the muscle through its range before exercise can prevent acute injuries. Dynamic (active) stretches are
recommended for warm-ups, over the traditional static stretch. - PREVENTS MUSCLE SORENESS
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) occurs 24-48 hours after exercise. It is thought to be due to microscopic tears in the muscle.
Stretching before and after training can minimize this damage and improve rate of recovery. - IMPROVES POSTURE
Muscle imbalances can lead to poor posture. For example, chest muscles become shortened in people who slouch over a
computer for long periods. Stretching these muscles can help to improve posture. - STRESS RELIEF
Muscle tightness is often associated with stress . We tend to tighten up when stressed. Stretching relaxes these muscles and you at
the same time.

Take a Deep Breathe & RelaxWhen you are under stress, your muscles tense and your breathing
becomes shallow and rapid. One of the simplest and best ways to stop this stress response is to breathe deeply and slowly. It sounds simple, and it is. By helping you let go of tension, deep breathing can relieve headaches, back aches, stomach aches, and sleeplessness. It releases the body's own painkillers, called endorphin's, into the system. It allows blood pressure to return to normal, which is good for the heart. Deep breathing can also allow held in emotions to come to the surface, so your emotional health benefits from deep breathing too.
Use deep breathing anytime, anywhere. It's ones of the best techniques
for relieving stress! |
